News and Information

In recent years, a rooftop photovoltaic boom has been sweeping across the country. Driven by strong market demand and supported by relevant national policies, China's distributed PV industry continues to experience rapid growth. Just recently, the well-known e-commerce platform Vipshop introduced NYSE: VIPS) has released its 2016 Corporate Social Responsibility Report, titled "Responsibility Leads to a Globally High-Quality Lifestyle" (hereafter referred to as the "Report"). The Report reveals that Via.com has achieved significant energy-saving results—effectively "slimming down"—through improvements to its warehousing and logistics systems as well as office spaces.

It is reported that, on the warehousing side, Vipshop has built a facility in Zhaoqing. The 140,000-square-meter distributed photovoltaic power plant project has positioned the Zhaoqing Logistics Park as a leading e-commerce logistics hub nationwide in terms of utilizing solar-powered renewable energy. Once operational, this clean-energy project will cut carbon emissions by nearly 13,000 tons annually—equivalent to planting more than 300,000 saplings.

In today’s environment of rising labor costs, escalating prices, and increasingly fierce market competition, businesses will find it challenging to maintain their competitive edge unless they better manage revenue generation and cost control while embracing innovation and reform. To this end, Companies such as JD.com, Vipshop, and Alibaba have successively announced plans to build photovoltaic power stations in their logistics parks. On one hand, this approach can generate significant revenue; on the other hand, it helps companies reduce their carbon emissions, paving the way for future generations to benefit from clean energy.

For example, VIP is currently building a photovoltaic rooftop project. Typically, industrial land leases last for 50 years, but once the PV power plant is constructed, it can operate efficiently for over 25 years—well within the lease term. Moreover, the payback period for the plant is just 6 to 7 years, meaning companies can enjoy at least a decade or more of pure, long-term solar energy profits. Why wouldn’t they take advantage of this opportunity?

Publicly available data shows that only In the first half of 2017, newly installed distributed photovoltaic capacity across the country increased nearly threefold year-on-year. Experts noted that the shift—marked by a decline in large-scale ground-mounted plants paired with a rise in distributed systems—reflects a significant structural transformation occurring within China’s PV industry, moving it away from merely pursuing sheer installation scale toward a greater focus on quality and efficiency.
