Wind-Solar Hybrid Power Generation The system leverages the complementary nature of wind and solar energy resources to achieve round-the-clock power generation, effectively addressing the challenge of insufficient solar power to meet the 24/7 video surveillance needs of transmission-line monitoring—and ensuring continuous, stable operation even during prolonged periods of cloudy or rainy weather. This section explains the structure and operational principles of the wind-solar hybrid power system. By analyzing the actual power consumption requirements of the all-weather video surveillance system for transmission lines, a configuration and installation plan has been designed for the battery storage unit, wind turbine, and solar photovoltaic array.

Application of Wind-Solar Hybrid Power Systems in Transmission Line Video Surveillance

With the rapid pace of economic development, infrastructure projects such as transportation networks, pipelines, industrial facilities, and residential buildings are steadily accelerating. As a result, unauthorized constructions—such as cranes and high-reach pump trucks—frequently occur within transmission line protection zones, posing a significant threat to the safe operation of power lines. By installing video surveillance systems at these hazardous locations, operators can gain real-time control over dynamic situations, significantly reducing the workload for on-site inspection teams and effectively preventing external forces from causing damage to transmission lines.

Due to the variability and unpredictability of hazardous points, as well as the critical importance of the lines, it is essential to eliminate blind spots in nighttime monitoring. This requires a 24-hour, continuous, and reliable video surveillance system, enabling the back-end monitoring center to stay fully informed about the dynamic conditions at these vulnerable locations. However, based on years of operational experience, insufficient power supply has consistently remained the bottleneck hindering the stable operation of the system.

Currently, the primary power source for transmission line video surveillance equipment is solar energy. The power system consists of solar panels and batteries, offering convenient installation, low investment, and environmental benefits. However, in some regions with insufficient sunlight, purely solar-powered systems cannot guarantee 24-hour continuous monitoring. Additionally, prolonged cloudy or rainy weather can disrupt the power supply, affecting the equipment's normal operation.

A 220V low-voltage power supply method is also used. A single 220V low-voltage line is connected to a distribution transformer near the tower and then extends directly to the top of the tower, where it powers the video equipment. While this setup ensures stable power supply necessary for continuous and reliable operation of the equipment, it comes with high construction costs and is vulnerable to power outages caused by thunderstorms or rainy weather.

To address the issues mentioned above, a wind-solar hybrid power system was designed to serve as the power source for all-weather video surveillance equipment and communication devices installed along transmission lines. This system fully leverages the complementary nature of solar and wind energy in terms of time and geography. Wind energy generates electricity during nighttime and rainy days when sunlight is absent, while solar energy provides power on clear, sunny days. When both wind and sun are available simultaneously, the system operates at full capacity, ensuring continuous power generation around the clock. This guarantees that the video surveillance system can maintain uninterrupted operation even during extended periods of overcast or rainy weather.
