The Development Trends of Wind-Solar Hybrid Power Generation Technology
By comprehensively considering wind and solar energy—two relatively well-developed renewable sources—we conclude that their complementary collaboration has given rise to a new power-generation model. This innovative approach enhances resilience to environmental and climatic challenges, enabling continuous electricity production even under complex weather conditions such as nighttime, rain, or snow. Moreover, the synergy between wind and solar energy is not only more scientific and cost-effective but also highly practical for real-world applications. Wind-Solar Hybrid Power Generation The system boasts widespread applications and clear advantages: it can reduce battery capacity under the same power supply conditions, while the complementary use of two energy sources ensures a more stable current output. This hybrid approach not only meets the system's power needs but also minimizes reliance on conventional power-generation equipment, delivering significant economic, social, and environmental benefits. In remote areas, wind-solar hybrid power generation technology effectively addresses electricity challenges, providing a reliable and consistent power supply that fosters regional economic growth. Meanwhile, the now-mature technologies behind streetlights and landscape lighting have greatly enhanced daily life convenience for people. Additionally, their application in communication base stations is further boosting local development.
Wind-solar hybrid power generation can be applied to parabolic trough technology, which offers higher efficiency, larger capacity scales, and lower commercialization and technical requirements compared to dish and tower systems. It is currently one of the most mature and widely adopted CSP technologies. A parabolic trough system primarily consists of two key components: a solar collector field formed by parabolic trough reflectors and a steam turbine generator unit. This setup allows for the efficient utilization of solar thermal energy—collecting heat via absorber tubes, which are then heated to produce synthetic oil. Meanwhile, the turbine generator uses a heat exchanger and steam-driven process to generate secondary electricity, with additional thermal storage pipes designed to retain excess heat. In challenging conditions where wind or solar power fails to operate, the stored thermal energy can be tapped as a backup power source to continue electricity production. Such innovative hybrid systems hold tremendous potential for future development. Although adoption has been relatively slow domestically, they are already laying a solid foundation for the further advancement and optimization of wind-solar hybrid power systems.
Leveraging the advantages of wind-solar complementary generation systems can help address the challenges inherent in integrating wind and solar energy, while also paving the way for developing a robust framework and tailored solutions for next-generation renewable energy systems. This approach serves as a valuable reference for advancing the creation and large-scale deployment of renewable energy technologies. This technology is particularly unique, and careful attention must be paid to the joint prediction of power generation outputs during its development and application. Notably, trough-type solar power technology already incorporates energy-storage systems. Therefore, it is essential to refine the forecast curves for integrated wind-solar systems with energy storage, ensuring symmetry in these curves. At the same time, given that the energy capacity of storage units is finite and predictive models inherently carry uncertainties, accelerating research into advanced integrated generation technologies remains critical.
